Certification Support
A planner to support you in collating your "professional teaching portfolio".
This is the main resources used in the Ako Panuku national workshop. This resource unpacks the key elements of a quality Induction and Mentoring programme, outlines the Practising Teacher Criteria, outlines how the 5 competencies of Tātaiako link to the 12 PTC criteria, outlines back mapping, gives 6 potential ways of designing a portfolio, outlines what constitutes good evidence, and provides the inquiry model.
Beth Dixon (PRT Coordinator for Ako Panuku) unpacks e-portfolios – what they are, who they are for and how to use these to showcase your teaching journey.
Cindy Harmer (Hastings Intermediate) shares the way she uses the online tool ‘Evernote’ as her e-portfolio. She describes this tool as her novel, and the chapters within capture the evidence of her professional growth and development as a new kaiako.
This document provides a national support for Provisionally Certificated Teachers (PCTs) in their first years of teaching. It includes the key principles and components of a quality Induction and Mentoring programme. It, also, outlines the the key skills, knowledge and attributes needed by mentors to fulfil their roles as support people for PCTs.
This handbook is a result of an induction and mentoring pilot (2009-2010).
Developed by Te Whare Wānanga o Awanuiārangi to:

Practising Teacher Criteria
The Practising Teacher Criteria have been developed by the Education Council. They represent the fundamental knowledge and capabilities for quality teaching in Aotearoa. They are inspirational and apply to ALL kaiako who seek to gain and maintain full certification.
This document outlines the need for teachers to engage with their Māori learners, whānau and iwi. Aligned to the key principles within Ka Hikitia – Managing for Success, it emphasises the importance of teacher-learner relationships and of identity, language and culture. Five competencies are outlined in the document. These are:
-
wānanga
-
whanaungatanga
-
manaakitanga
-
tangata whenuatanga
-
ako
While these are not formal standards they are linked to the Graduating Teacher Standards and Practising Teacher Criteria.
